Day 16: Fez Souk Market Galore

On Saturday, we saw so many different types of Souks as we walked through the Fez marketplace.   The pictures below capture just a few of the stores that we saw.

This was us visitng a small school inside of the Medina.    Thami told us that this was the oldest school within Morocco and was originally built in the 13th century.

One of many ornate dress shops that we saw.   Some of the robes we saw where quite ornate and ornamental while others were more simple.   We also saw shops where the individual fabrics and threads were sold.
We saw many beautiful jewelry stores with quite expensive jewelry made with precious stones.    Thami showed us ornamental belts that are sometimes worn for weddings or other special occasions.   Thami estimated that the belts above were in the $50,000 - $60,000 range.  Wow.

I loved this store of beautiful silk  threads.

Thami demonstrating how the merchants enter their stores each day.

We also saw where ornamental wedding chairs were manufactured and sold.   We were told that the brides are carried in these on their wedding day.
Open air pottery market where two customers were taking a break.

One of many date and nut stores.    Tracey bought both at this particular store and they were quite good.
Another one of those 'hidden treasure' stores that Thami took us to that I would never be able to find again.   You simply can't imagine the large number of beautiful rugs that we saw in this four story room.   It was explained to us that many women who are widows or need to make a living, hand make these at this particular co-op.    I only wish this were closer to home because I would have loved to buy one of these beautiful rugs.

Even more rugs.

Our last stop of the day was a spice and oil store where we were given a demonstration of many different products.  Several people bought Argan oil, Jasmine oil, and unique Moroccan spices.
