Day 9: More Souks and Ben Youssef Medersa School

Below are some additional interesting Souk pictures that I took while visiting the Marrakech Town Square area.

Loved the carpets.   This is one of the handmade items that Morocco is known for.

Spice store being managed by the female shop keeper who was there with her child.

This particular Souk sold dates, olives and other fruits.  The two little boys with their mom where enjoying the view and fragrances.

One of the things that amazed me about the overall Souk market in Marrakech was all of the motorcylcists who zoom through the market.   You really have to be careful or you would get run over.  The exhaust smell can also get a liitle srong in such a small enclosed area.
We thought this little boy was being helpful when he offered to help us get out of the maze of shops to the main Town Square effort.   He promptly asked us for 100 dirhams (about $12) after his 60 second journey.   You can tell by the look on his face that he was not pleased when we paid him less than half of what he asked.   Still not bad for 60 seconds worth of work.

Karen, Mihoko, Austin, Tracey, and I visiting the Ben Youssef Medersa.   It was built in the mid 14th century and was once a school for about 900 children.

We are standing in the open courtyard.  This school was located off of the Marrakech Town Square but it was amazingly quiet and peaceful once you got inside.   Very different environment from the eclectic market outside of its walls.

If you look closely, you can see Austin, Rahul, Mihoko, Karen, and Tracey inside each of the 5 windows within the Ben Youssef Medersa walls.
